Happy Super Celestial Events Day

Today is a special day because three celestial events occur on the same day:
1. a solar eclipse
2. a supermoon which we would not normally be able to see because it's a new moon, but will be able to because of the eclipse. Oooh!
3. the equinox

Plus it's the first day of Spring (see here to read why it's no longer March 21). And, there are going to be super high tides around the Atlantic coast of France. There's not a room to be found in the key seaside towns as people gather to watch the phenomenon.

The next time this convergence of celestial events occurs will be when we're all dead.

Pity it's raining in Montpellier and we'll miss the main event.

Still, teachers will be happy. They won't have to worry about elfansafety, keeping their little charges intent on self-destruction by looking at the eclipse, as there'll be nothing to see.

Enjoy.

UPDATE
Here is a video the Mont Saint Michel as an island again. It looks fantastic!

  1. A triple whammy which apparently has massive implications astrologically as well! It's been too cloudy in southern England but looks great elsewhere - hope you enjoy our last one - great video :)

    1. We didn't see much either, but someone at work managed to get a picture of the little we did see. :)

  2. We had a good view of the eclipse, quite amazing to watch.

Mont Saint Michel is now like St Michael's Mount in Cornwall!

    1. Oooh! Lucky you having a good view of the eclipse. :)

Mont St M didn't stay like that for long - no more than a couple of minutes in fact. Still amazing to see though. :)

  3. It was sunny here but I didn't expect it to be so wasn't prepared. And had arranged to meet a delivery van at my aunt's flat. So it all happened as I was driving and when I stopped, it was too bright to look at the sun!
Mont St Michel looked wonderful - I have a fabulous painting my dad did of it from a photo we took after a visit there. Lovely memories.

    1. Oops! Trust the weather to do the opposite of what you expected.

Did your dad paint in the sea at Mont St Michel?

  4. I decided to be a bad mother and kept Rugby boy home to watch the eclipse - the school was determined to lock the up with the curtains drawn. We watched it on the screen of my camera. School got an absence note saying that he was absent "to view an exceptional phenomenon and increase his general knowledge and culture". Rugby boy says I now qualify as a very cool mum.

    1. Good for you! It was a bit cloudy where I was at work but someone managed to take a photo of the best bit. The light dimmed slightly but that was it.

  5. Amazing - did not know that - and these images are so very cool. Looks like that book All the light we cannot see

  6. You missed the main event in Europe a couple of weeks ago, Jody. The media was full of it, and the hoohar over kids being kept indoors and 'out of harm's way'.
